banks of the Rivière noire and near Mont Yamaska. L'Aumônière is roughly twenty minutes south of Ste-Hyacinthe, and about the same distance from Route 10 if you are driving in from the south.
If you are American I am sure you will agree that L'Aumônière is very much unlike anything you are familiar with in the States. The restaurant is what is known as a table gourmande, which means they are only open one or two nights a week and the menu is selected by the group that reserves the main dining room. Don't expect to just walk in off the street and be served at L'Aumônière. You must call the chef several days in advance and ask if he will have room for you in the small dining area situated apart from the main group. You must eat what the main group is having, but don't worry, you will know in advance what Chef Yvès will be serving. (Actually, sometimes it's nice not to have to worry about deciding what to order, n'est-ce pas?)
If I remember correctly L'Aumônière is only open Saturday evenings. When I dined there in 2008, the entrée was ostrich and the entire meal was amazing! I went with friends and had a wonderful time. By the way, don't forget to bring your own wine; that's the custom in Quebec.
